Repatriation - Bringing your loved one home

Funeral Planning
12 April 2026 4 minutes

Repatriation is where a deceased person is moved from one state – or one country – to another so that final rites can be performed there.

When a loved one passes away overseas, sometimes the best place for their funeral service to take place is here in Australia. Or it could be that when someone passes away in Australia, you may wish to return your loved one to their place of birth for their funeral.

A repatriation can involve quite a lot of paperwork and logistical challenges, so it is important to select a reliable funeral director you can trust.

We will liaise with the various state and federal government departments as well as international and domestic consular representatives on your behalf. Blackwell Funerals is also part of the InvoCare family of funeral homes, meaning that we have trusted partner brands all across Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.
