Blackwell Funerals is an Australian owned business that has been serving the people and communities of Adelaide and surrounding areas for more than 70 years. Blackwell Funerals is proud to have continually grown our experience and our reputation for care ever since then.
The origins of Blackwell Funerals began in 1940 when Daryl Blackwell inherited the family business, a coffin manufacturing firm called FM Blackwell Pty Ltd.
Branching out from coffin manufacture to begin arranging and conducting funerals, Daryl quickly grew the Blackwell name into one of Australia's most trusted names in funeral services.
Daryl was a pioneer, not only in leading a team that delivers outstanding customer service to families at an important time, but also in identifying and supporting the needs of the communities around him. Daryl Blackwell will be remembered for being the first to truly understand and to meet the needs of Adelaide's mediterranean cultures.

His engagement with these communities saw Daryl introduce many products and services into South Australia, such as the caskets and other burial options preferred by Italian and other mediterranean families. Daryl remained directly involved with Blackwell Funerals until 2000, building the business to a total of five locations around Adelaide.
Sadly, Daryl passed away in 2010 however his reputation for care, respect, compassion and service remains alive today for another aspect of the legacy left by Daryl Blackwell is the work he did in elevating the professional standards of the funeral profession in general.
As a Divisional Councillor and then National President of the Australian Funeral Directors Association, an AFDA Master Funeral Director, Australia's first member of the International Funeral Director Association and, finally, President of that body, Daryl was at the forefront of ensuring that families all around Australia, but in Adelaide and surrounding areas in particular, received the best of care when they needed it most.
